[SOLUTION] Dell Inspiron 1750 black screen (dim/dark) & 1545
I had a customer that broke the screen of their Dell Inspiron 1750 laptop. I had my laptop repair expert replace the screen (which is an LED screen with no separate backlight or inverter), but the screen was dim/dark/black as if the backlight was out on an LCD screen. He put the new screen in another laptop and it worked fine. We replaced the cable, but had the same problem.
I stumbled upon a website (sorry, I don’t know which, but here is one I just found that does have some good info about the Dell Inspiron 1545) that mentioned this model has a fuse on the motherboard. Also, if we were paying close attention, next to the video connector it says “F1=3A/32V”. That is referring to the fuse! It is here:

You can short the two ends of that fuse to test to see if that’s the problem (paper clip, wire, etc.). He ended up crafting a little bridge with a solder gun and it is working great! I’m not sure what the fuse blew for (maybe when the screen cracked), so hopefully there isn’t a problem in the future..

AWESOME POST!!! Saved us hours of T-Shoot time. Thanks!!!!
Did you fix yours?
EXELENTE POST FUNCIONA DE MARAVILLA THANKS TO BRIANMORRISTECH
You are the man! I replaced a screen in a customer’s 1750 and the backlight quit. The original screen was only cracked, but subbing that screen back in also yielded no backlight. I was getting ready to order a motherboard (which I would have eaten the cost of since it died on the bench) when I found this post. Fixed it like a boss! This must be a pretty crappy design…there was no power on the laptop at all when the fuse blew. My boss suggests the only possibility was static discharge, but if that happened it was weak enough that I didn’t feel it at all.
