Dell D620 screen flickers after removing power cord

I sold a Dell Latitude D620 that intermittently would go into a terrible screen flickering or blinking when the power cord was unplugged.  If I inserted the AC adapter, it was fine.  After lots of time and headaches, the answer was to update the display driver.

It had Intel 6.14.10.4764 display driver, which was bad.

I updated it to Intel 6.14.10.4814, which worked.

I recommend going to www.dell.com/support and downloading the newest display driver from there.

[SOLUTION] HP compaq nc6000 wireless not working

I’ve been struggling with this laptop for weeks and finally found a solution.  The nc6000 laptop was donated to the organization that I work for and the user wanted wireless internet.  (Check the bay in the bottom of the laptop to see if a card is there first!)  I bought a card on eBay that was supposed to work for the nc6000 (an intel B2200BG), and the drivers loaded, the Windows wireless icon showed up, but the blue light on the computer wasn’t on and no networks ever showed up, even if I pushed the wireless button. I thought there was a card issue.  (After reading today, only certain mini-PCI cards will work with this model, maybe even just cards with an HP sticker.)  I bought an HP WLAN W500 card, installed it, but had the same exact issue. I installed the Atheros Client Utility thinking that might be required, but it said “wireless network interface disabled.” I dug around the BIOS more (hit F10 immediately after hitting the power button to turn it on) and found that under Security tab, Device Security, there is a choice for Wireless network button and it is set to Disable!  I enabled it, saved the changes and IT WORKS!  Now the wireless button makes the blue light turn on and the wireless works! Can’t open Outlook with QuickBooks open – SOLUTION

After upgrading from QuickBooks 2006 to 2008 (stupid Intuit), I wanted to synchronize my contacts from QuickBooks to Outlook 2000 like I’ve always done.  When I tried, it made me download a sync application and install it (the 2006 version had a small, built-in sync program).  I had to close Outlook for it to install, but when I went to open Outlook, it wouldn’t open.  I finally uninstalled the sync app and closed all my programs and then Outlook opened.  That scared me…

Then I noticed other things..  If I tried to use a right-click Sent To – Mail Recipient or a built-in email function, it wouldn’t work.  Many times I couldn’t get my Outlook to open again, even with the sync app gone.  I finally figured out that with QuickBooks 2008 open, Outlook won’t open and many of it’s functions are messed up.  There aren’t any add-ins for QB in Outlook.

I finally figured out the solution: Edit menu, Preferences, Send Forms, My Preferences tab, change “Send E-mail Using” to QuickBooks E-mail from Outlook.  This will disentangle the programs.  Errr.

FIX! Generic Host Process for win32 Services szModName: ntdll.dll

I worked on a computer today that would pop the Generic Host Process for win32 Services error with the szModName: ntdll.dll.  I did trial and error in the MSCONFIG application and found that if I uncheck Terminal Services on the Services tab, the problem disappeared.  This user will never need to use any built-in remote support features, so I tally this one as fixed..Омоложение сада, омоложение растений в саду

STEPS:

Click Start, Run, type msconfig, click Services tab, uncheck Terminal Services, click OK, reboot and see what happens.

US Passport Application Wizard & Firefox/PDF Issue

I’ve had getting a passport on my To Do List for about a year now, and I wanted to get the application done. I visited the Passport Application Wizard, thinking it would make the process very quick and easy. I almost always use Firefox (2.0.0.14) now, and this was no exception. I went through all the pages and filled out all the blanks, only to get the final page with lots of instructions. At the top was a button to “Create Form.” I clicked it, but nothing happens. I clicked Back and kept going back and forth, but it still wouldn’t work.

Passport PDF button

I want to get this done, so I used IE6 to fill out the form again. I hate doing things twice. Indeed, it worked fine, when I clicked the “Create Form” button, it asked if I wanted to Save or Open the PDF.

If this page won’t work properly in Firefox, they need to either fix the code or warn people not to waste all their time with Firefox. I emailed them, we’ll see if I get a reply.
