Delta postcard about free airline tickets & hotel
November 30, 2011 – 8:47 amThe strategy has evolved again (maybe just experimenting) by sending out a Delta Airlines postcard. (See other posts about previous mailings here.) Please comment if you received one with your location.
See below for the postcard images and text.
The postcard says that they have been trying to contact you about free round trip tickets and a hotel stay you have won. Once you go to the sales pitch and sign up, you book through a fulfillment company. I’ve seen two lately: Universal Travel Vacations (website, BBB report) or the The Vacation Station (website, BBB report TN, BBB report SC)
Also, here is another blogger with information about a postcard that looks like it is from Southwest Airlines: http://talestoldfromtheroad.com/2011/11/02/consumer-alert-southwest-escape-offer-grounded/
I have found the answers to this mystery thanks to the great work of the folks at BBB in Tucson, AZ:
http://www.bbb.org/tucson/business-reviews/travel-clubs/southwest-travel-club-in-tucson-az-20007983
http://www.bbb.org/tucson/business-reviews/prize-promotions/patterson-bell-in-tucson-az-20027549
An actual story of someone that bought in: http://www.kgun9.com/features/investigations/122887609.html
If you would like to read more about these folks, visit this post. You can read all about the sales presentation, the free offer and the what you get for your vacation membership club cash outlay.
ADVICE:
When I read this, it was just too good not to post. It’s from the Nebraska Attorney General (page 13 printed/page 15 PDF).
Look for the warning signs that may indicate a scam:
- Benefits sound too good to be true.
- The company has no permanent address and all presentations are held in rented conference rooms.
- They can’t, or won’t, provide you with references.
- They don’t want to give you an itemized list of what’s included in your trip until you have already signed the contract.
What you should do if you suspect a scam:
- Don’t sign any contract during the travel presentation. They are high-pressure events intended to stir the emotions of an exotic vacation.
- Contact a respected travel agent in town, give them the specifics of the trip, and ask if that seems consistent with industry pricing.
- Shop around. Compare your trip with other travel packages being offered to seniors.
Here is Michigan’s Attorney General’s advice:
http://www.michigan.gov/ag/0,1607,7-164-34739_20942-44762–,00.html
Here is the of the postcard:
DELTA / FLY AWAY ESCAPE
Dear x,
Congratulations! You have been selected to receive 2 Round Trip Airfares to anywhere Delta flies in the continental USA. Call within 48 hours. You will also receive as a bonus 3 day 2 night hotel stay!
We have been trying to contact you! (This is not a timeshare or land sale offer)
Toll free 1-800-313-1263 (or other numbers)
RSVP xxxx (your ID in their database) MON-SUN 9am to 8pm
Fine print: Certain restrictions apply. Call for details of participation. This offer is not sponsored by or affiliated with Delta Airlines but they are a major supplier. Taxes, processing fees and reservation fees are the responsibility of the recipient. Offer void where prohibited by law. Not applicable to Alaska or Hawaii.
[UPDATE 12/2/2011] Apparently Delta isn’t the only carrier they are testing out in their new postcards — Southwest Airlines is targeted as well: http://talestoldfromtheroad.com/2011/11/02/consumer-alert-southwest-escape-offer-grounded/
Here is what would happen if you did call:

It so happens that I had some major problems with a recent Delta flight, and have been meaning to hit that airline up for some sort of compensation – but I certainly didn’t think it would come automatically in the form of this bulk-mailed postcard!

My card was for jetBlue and included a $100 Chevron gas voucher if responded to within 48 Hours. The “toll free” # is 855-510-7593.
I received one similar to this a couple of years ago and when I call when the girl explained the terms of the offer mysteriously static would be on the line the whole time. Then she would say do you accept this offer? I made her repeat it about 5 times then told her if she would like to repeat without the static I “might” be interested and started laughing. For some reason she hung-up on me that 30 minutes she wasn’t ripping somebody off. ROFL

Another good tip –
If you win a contest from anywhere, they won’t send you a postcard via first class mail to let you know you’ve won. They will most likely call you or send something via certified mail. Email is another possibility, but if it’s something big like an all-expenses-paid trip, they will call you.

number is 1-877-567-1911. No dates as it is a prepaid stamped envelope, and no dates or reason as to why I was “a winner”. Their is a PO box address on the env. “CP, PO Box 20389, West Palm
Beach, FL 33416.

Got a “Delta – Fly Away Escape” postcard here in VA. It offers 2 round-trip airfares in the continental USA and 2-night hotel stay. Their phone is 1-800-952-9644. Called them. They call themselves “Diamond Marketing Solutions” but have no website and no permanent address. They are not affiliated in any way with the major communications company of the same name that has a website at http://www.dmsolutions.com. They said husband and wife must show up for 90-minute presentation at Holiday Inn in Georgetown (Washington, DC) between Feb. 29 and March 3, 2012. Claim you don’t have to buy or join anything. They say you have to pay 10% in “processing fees” or “reservation fees” in order to receive voucher for airfares and hotel stay. I called Delta. They said postcard offer is not authorized by the airline. Delta also said use of the Delta logo is not authorized by the airline for any offer not sponsored by Delta, so the postcard is likely infringing on Delta’s trademarks and service marks. The postcard is a marketing scam by a fulfillment company that buys large quantities of airline tickets and distributes them to suckers who attend the 90-minute presentation and get sales-pressured to sign a “contract” that obligates them to pay various “processing fees” and “reservation fees,” with options to buy certain products or services. Do not fall for this scam. If you do, it can cost you upwards of several thousand dollars if you sign the contract.

They’re still at it. With a foto of the bottom of a two-engine jet and a separate Delta Logo on the front and the following on the back “Congrats…you’ve been selected to receive 2 round trip airfares….”. etc. The phone listed is 800 952-9644. The only return address info is West Palm Beach. And they aren’t even using correct English. There’s no such thing as receiving an “air fare.” Air tickets, yes.

I received one of the Delta postcards in Tucson near April 3, 2012.
Meetings at the Double Tree. Talking with
a Mr Ron Raines.
Same picture as listed above.
“Ron” said the deal has to do with a new travel club, and that the airline tickets are a Thank You for my wife and I attending the 72 minute presentation.
We were thinking about going — until I read all of the above.
Phone number on the card said:

Claims to work for World Resorts International.
Phone calls from Ron Raines come from 480 361 6905.

By brmorris on Apr 21, 2012
I recieved one of these in the mail today. I take surveys online through mysurvey.com and thought that I had won a sweepstakes, as this postcard said that I was to be awarded two airline tickets. I didn’t see a company name ANYWHERE. So I called the number. A woman picked up and told me that all I had to do was attend some seminar to recieve my free airline tickets but that first I would need to give her some information. Her first question was “Are you married?” What? She doesn’t want my name? My address? My phone number? I was like “Um…can I call you back?” Her tone changed. She sounded irritated and said “I need you to answer these questions NOW or you will not recieve the bonus.” I asked her what the name of her company was. She hung up on me!!!! It was so strange. Oh and she answered on the first ring!!!! What kind of customer service technician answers on the first ring? If this company was legitimate, I would expect to wait on hold for an hour!
By Jennifer M. on Apr 24, 2012
Jennifer M.,
Yep, you’ve exposed them pretty clearly. They know your name and address from the offer code in your letter. They require a married couple with a credit card — it must deal with the sales pitch technique or something.

Not on your life! I went to tips.fbi.gov and gave them this info. People beware!

I received one today with United as the airline. You want to believe so badly because you want to get away. In the back of your mind though, you know it’s a SCAM – nothin free these days, especially when an airline is involved. The only true free thing I ever received was a little insatamatic Kodak camera back in the 60′s. And yes, you had to buy the film. Fun to read what the people who called had to say.

Received a Delta variant of the postcard in Springfield VA on 8/10. USPS permit number is 2736. This one is called a Delta Airlines Fly away Promotion on the front. Fine print on the back includes the usual “trademarks property of their owners” and “all components of offer are filled by third parties” language. Call in number is 866-341-5819. Not buying into this…

I received a Delta card today in Atlanta, GA for 2 Round Trip Airfares and a bonus 5 DAY CRUISE. Phone # is 866-341-5819. Also have received MANY (Daily!) free travel offers by phone from PRIZE ENTRY CENTER (708-503-6683) and ANSWER (802-488-3051) – all about winning free trips. These calls and recordings are also coming from local numbers. However,I didn’t enter any contests!
I was suspicious of this card because my name is not listed differently than my Delta account.
The mail permit is 2736 from Las Vegas.
By Mimi on Aug 18, 2012
The last sentence should read, “I was suspicious because my name IS LISTED DIFFERENTLY than my Delta account!

I just got a postcard for the Delta “Fly Away Promotion”. At first glance it does look offical. At second glance, I noticed that the word “airline” in the Delta Logo had a typo “air line”. I do not call or apply for it. The promo code was DDA-0xxx and had a phone number to call of 866-341-5819.
By Robert on Aug 20, 2012
I just received an offer in the mail; being the curious type and since the ‘pitch’ was being held 15 minutes from me, I went.
A local company, Jandar Travel of Sarasota, FL was pitching the Tradewinds Vacation Club. They wanted a steep $5995 to join for a lifetime during the initial pitch. When they get you into a one-on-one with the sales person, they’ll “reduce” it to $3,995 if you “Act Today.” And if you still hold out, they’ll reduce to $995 for a 5 year trial.
What a farce! I checked around and you can get equally decent deals and even better ones by NOT using their vacation club.
As an aside, even though Delta was on the postcard, they have nothing to do. Instead another fulfillment company called Capitol Marketing in St. Petersburg, FL is the company that will allegedly fulfill the 2 free tickets with a mere $120 processing fee. Further checking on this crew on the internet revealed that one would be lucky to get anything from them.
Folks, if you want to travel, go do some internet searches or connect with a reputable travel agent in your area. You’ll fare much better financially!

Got the “Delta Air Lines” postcard today stating a “Fly Away Promotion” using number 800-279-8922 and promo code DLA-0xxx. Not only are they giving away two free airline tickets, but they will throw in a three day two night hotel stay to entice you further. I’m not sure how that would work if they don’t know where I want to fly to, but it would seem as if they choose the destination and accomodations.
It also has a logo of “Skyteam” who has a website to promote airline travel for personal or business and uses 17 airlines – with Delta being the only domestic one. That alone should raise an eyebrow.
It may not be a real scam, but it definitely is something unusual and should be avoided.

Received the DELTA AIR LINE version on Monday 8/27/2012 in Bellevue, WA (next to Issaquah, WA – the entry above). I called and they are scheduling meetings for the “presentation” on 9/6 – 9/8 at the Issaquah Holiday Inn near Costco. I have submitted an online complaint with the WA Attorney General’s office with all of the details. I would love to work a sting operation against these guys, but I am sure the AG would only say caveat emptor (let the buyer beware). I will try and push for a warning to be issued by their office.

I live in Hawaii and Hawaii people loves to go to Vegas. I was excited at first and my wife asked me to found out what its about so I called the number and the guy that answered says they just do the booking reservation for the Frontier Wholesale Travel company. Did not ask for any money or credit card info but did comfirm my name. I made an appointment to go to the seminar that Saturday but ended up not showing up after researching it more online.
I think if you are curious you can call but you don’t have to show up for the seminar. Don’t give away more personal info although they already have your name thats why you received the postcard. If they call you to confirm the appointment just tell them you are no longer interested and ask them don’t call anymore. That should be the end of it.

I can’t believe these same folks have been at it this long without getting busted!
We just got this card offering US Airways flights anywhere in the contiguous U.S. and a 3 day/2 night hotel stay at “major brands,” and $50 Priceline.com Hotel Cash Card. AND if we call within 48 hrs we get a bonus 3 day rent-a-car by Alamo plus a $100 gas voucher.
This card also says they “attempted to contact [us] several times. This is [their] last attempt.” (Just as others, I’ve NEVER heard from them before and I am always home!)
The card has logos from Alamo, Chevron, Priceline.com, DoubleTree hotels, Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt.
The same West Palm Beach paid postage, Permit #1002. Yet another phone #, 1-888-205-8852, Mon-Sun, 9am to 9pm.
Fine print in the corner reads, “Certain restrictions apply. Call for details. Taxes, deposit, fees and/or surcharges are the responsibility of the recipient. This promotion not sponsored by US Airways, Double Tree, Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Priceline.com or Alamo (…That leaves only Chevron? and…) Not applicable to Alaska or Hawaii.
How DO they get away with this without somebody busting them for using corporate logos without permission or endorsement? Isn’t this really mail fraud? (a federal offense)

By tom on Nov 21, 2012
The card I received I the priceline, alamo and chevron logo, mentioning the 2 round trip airfares on US airways plus other hotel perks. I called the number (888-831-4811) and made my reservation for their promotion with “Luxury Vacation Deals”. Couldn’t find much info on them and what I did find may have been another company anyhow. THEN, I found this site and very soon determined that I received the newest take on the offer that many other people found to be bogus. Now the FUNNY part, I called one of the numbers in your post, not the one I was instructed to call and (through their caller ID), they know who I was and had an appointment already. They obviously have a bank of toll free numbers working out of the same room. I have since decided not to waste my time for the gifts but don’t plan on notifing them and since space is limited, just not show up and save some more vulnerable couple from being taken. Then today, got a call that the hotel has been changed to a different location. Maybe they got booted out of the original location.
The only reason I went for this offer is I’m used to doing timeshare promotions for the gift only. After maybe 60 or 70 of these, without buying one, I consider myself a pro and have always received what was promised and I know the presentation will take longer than the 90 minutes. Hopefully, people will continue reading this post and these marketers will go out of business.

Got one today. Company is Alchemy Travel. It’s a big scam, could just tell by the way my questions were answered. Hope people don’t fall for it. These companies are bad news and make millions off of people who are suckers.

Received the same postcard as Terry’s today – December 12, 2012. Figured it was a scam and was glad to find this site. Saved me the trouble of calling or wondering what the catch was.

I received a very similar postcard with “US Airways” identified. I wrote to Priceline to ask about the legitimacy and this is their response:
Dear Richard,
Thank you for taking the time to send us an e-mail.
The promotional offer you received is not legitimate, and it is not offered by priceline.com. If you contacted the phone number listed on the post card and provided your debit or credit card information, please contact your bank immediately.
We are trying to track down who is sending these postcards in order to put an end to it. It would help us if you would mail the post card to our corporate office for review. Please mail the post card to:

I received a post card offer today in Albuquerque, NM for 2 round trip tickets on US Airways to anywhere in the continental U.S., and 3 days/2 nights at any Marriott or Hilton in the continental U.S. It said to call 1-866-743-9127, M.-F. 1 to 8 PM. It gave a RSVP with 2 letters and 4 numbers. I called and left my name and number and the RSVP letters/numbers. (I’ll see what happens but I’m very suspicious at this point.) Their phone mail message sounded like “Rosewert Services.” A few minutes later our phone rang but no one was there and it didn’t register on our caller ID.

Got one today in the mail in Hawaii. Mind had the WELCOME to Fabulous LAS VEGAS sign on the front. Everything the exact same thing but the phone number was 1-877-291-9729.
By Pete Smith on Jan 8, 2013
Received one today in San Diego, CA for same offer as John Comstock: tickets on US Airways and stays at Marriott or Hilton. Priceline, Alamo, and Chevron logos adorn the postcard. Postage paid was from West Palm Beach, FL, and number given was 1-877-350-0359. Thing that raised my suspicions: plane pictured on postcard has US Airways color scheme, but US Airways titles and logo, and FAA tail number have been photo-shopped off the plane.

I received a card in December saying Congratulations! You are going to receive 2 round trip airfares on US airways flying anywhere in the continental US and 3 days/2 nights at any Marriott or Hilton in the Continental U.S. Call within 48 hours. You will also receive as a bonus a 3 day rental car by alamo plus a $50 priceline.come hotel cash card. Call toll free 1-877-898-3285 with in 7 days. We didn’t call but then received a US AIRLINES check for $1298.00 and it said it would be void after 30 days and in the memo it said it must be redeemed for travel certificate. My husband called 1-877-962-7089 made an appointment and was told that it would be held at 450 Sentry Parkway in Blue Bell, Pa. and it was sponsored by Rapid Travel rewards 1-866-949-0151 (knowing it was some promotion but he loves saying no and getting free stuff). But two days before the appointment they called him and he said he was thinking of cancelling. They encouraged him to talk to his wife that night again and let them know. I had dealt with timeshare and land sales people before and really didn’t want to go and waste hours on this. But with all the comments on this page my husband also decided it wasn’t worth the time and we would spend a tank of gas just getting there. I too now will be mailing my card to priceline.

Certain restrictions apply. Call for details of participation. This promotion is not sponsored by or affiliated with Norwegian Cruise Lines, but they are a major supplier. Recipient is responsible for any applicable deposits, port charges, taxes and/or fees. While supplies last.
Noted: First, there is no postmark (DUH!), because it is presorted 1st class postage paid mail, which doesn’t get postmarked! “West Palm Beach, FL Permit 1002″
Nice quality postmark, so I’m sure it works on some, especially with the cruise line photos and logo plastered all over it. I wonder how the folks at Delta, Norwegian, etc feel about this?

OK, my turn! I got a small check size notice saying Final Notice, Travel Check and Personal and Confidential on the front. The big give away is AUTO sort code above my name. It looks like an official check printed inside from “FLY THE US SKIES”, paying to USA Airlines in my behalf. An airline company called USA Airlines does not exist. There is US Airways but NOT USA Airlines. I also Googled the number on the check which came up in Tokyo. Interesting! I was actually looking for some flight deals today. Coincidence?! Glad this post was here. Thanks!

I just received a card with a 747 aircraft on the front. “Expedia” is above the plane! The card also mentions “southwest airlines” and “Marriott” hotel. I called the 1-888-266-5503 on the card and spoke with “Carla”. After she explained what the deal was I kindly replied “no thank you”. She then stated “Then what the hell you call for?” and hung up on me! I called back and asked for her supervisor. “Jordan” came on the line claiming he was the supervisor and stated that I was lying about “Carla’s” remark to me! I told him I will be contacting “Expedia” …..he did not care.
Hey, Expedia, Southwest Airlines and Marriott, I have used you many times in the past, i am a business owner and I have a VIP MEMBERSHIP! Guess how this is going to work out for you?

When I called Dominick explained that it was a promotion from Seabreeze Vacations and I would need to sit through a 90 minute presentation at a local hotel to get the offer, but first I had to answer a few questions. One was about household income. Mine was too low for them and I didn’t qualify. Dominick said there was another promotion if I was interested.
